Patient Assistance Programs

When you get your specialty medications from Prosperity Specialty Pharmacy, we do a complete benefits investigation to determine what your insurance covers and what your patient responsibility is.  Oftentimes, the high costs of these medications can mean that you have excessive out-of-pocket expenses or the drug is not covered at all.  We can help by finding resource programs, such as Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs) of Copay Assistance Programs, that were established to help patients afford medication.  As patient advocates, we frequently assist patients who are unable to afford their medications in finding alternate funding.

What are patient assistance programs?
Patient assistance programs are programs set up by drug companies that offer free or low cost drugs to individuals who are unable to pay for their medication.  All of the major drug companies have patient assistance programs, and offer these programs voluntarily; the government does not require them to provide free medicine.

What are programs that assist with medication co-pays?
Some organizations offer to help insured patients that are having difficulty paying the co-pays for their medications or their insurance. These programs are for very specific diseases or medications and are primarily dedicated to subsidizing the high cost of health insurance premiums and pharmacy co-payments for persons with specific chronic illnesses and rare disorders.  Families requiring assistance in maintaining the high cost of their health insurance premiums or co-payments are offered assistance based upon the severity of medical and financial need. They offer a "safety net" for persons who have expensive chronic illnesses and for those persons who fall through the financial assistance cracks.
