Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Joins Prosperity Team

We are pleased to announce that our new position at Prosperity Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, has been filled with an extremely talented candidate, Dr. Stephanie Spence. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist’s role is to participate in the development and delivery of clinical pharmacy programs to provide consultative, educational, operational, and research services for the Prosperity Pharmacy Group. The scope of practice of the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist covers direct and indirect patient care, patient education, quality assurance, staff education and consultation, and supports physicians and other health practitioners.

In this role, Dr. Spence will evaluate drug utilization appropriateness, develop drug education plans and strategies to promote cost-effective prescribing in area of expertise, focusing on HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C initially, and other clinical activities. Another key function is the development of Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Programs for core disease states. Dr. Spence will provide drug information to health care providers as well as patients as appropriate. She will provide continuing education and staff development in-services for pharmacists, physicians, and other health care providers. Other responsibilities for her include review of the literature to provide updates on drug therapy and pipeline to the management team and other staff members.

Dr. Spence recently completed an Executive Resident in Association Management with the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP). She consultants for the Center for Minority Studies, a non-profit organization focused on HIV/AIDS patient education and empowerment.

She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2007. While in pharmacy school, she founded a chapter of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) and served on the SNPhA national executive board for two years as a Regional Facilitator and the Bridging the Gap Mentorship Program Coordinator. She also participated as a member of the Academy of Student Pharmacists, Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity Incorporated, and Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Fraternity.

Through her work with the Center for Minority Studies, Dr. Spence maintains a passion for patient education by coordinating and executing programs designed to teach patients with HIV/AIDS and other disease states about their treatment options.

Stephanie is most excited about the direction that the profession of pharmacy is taking with the recognition of pharmacists as reimbursable healthcare providers. She plans to provide MTM and consultant services to diverse patient populations in the future and will pursue whatever she can to stay current.
